Sagar BHATTA

I hold an Erasmus Mundus Master’s degree in Membrane Engineering (focused on food, health and biotechnology) and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
I am currently working on a PhD project at Laval University under the supervision of Prof. Tatjana Stevanovic and Prof. Cristina Ratti. The project focuses on valorization of maple bark extracts as active food ingredients. The project is jointly funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada and industrial partners (Decacer and Levaco Inc.).

My research interests lie in the field of by-product valorization to procure bioactive compounds for food applications, as well as development of novel products. I have research experience on the separation and purification of bioactive peptides from whey protein isolates. I am also interested in stability of bioactive compounds in food during processing and storage.
